Job Description

The Talent Acquisition Specialist role at American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) sits within the Global Talent Acquisition COE, supporting recruitment across three ABS organizations in 61 countries. The position focuses primarily on U.S. hiring with occasional Canada, collaborating across Engineering, IT, Operations, BD, Financial Services, and Cybersecurity, and utilizing Oracle Recruiting Cloud as the ATS. This is a hybrid role based in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary support for United States hiring needs with occasional assignments in Canada.
  • Apply recruiting experience to fill roles across Engineering, Information Technology, Operations, Business Development, Financial Services, and Cybersecurity.
  • Develop proactive staffing strategies and explore alternative avenues to attract candidates for open positions.
  • Collaborate professionally with other HR team members, including Recruiters, Coordinators, HR Business Partners, Compensation, and HR leadership at multiple levels.
  • Provide weekly status reports on openings using standardized formats and participate in live management and HR review sessions.
  • Oversee openings from requisition creation through offer acceptance, performing all steps within the Applicant Tracking System.
  • Serve as a talent acquisition partner to designated departments, proactively learning the business and how talent acquisition impacts operations.
  • Occasionally partner with College Recruiting to attract recent graduates and interns.
  • Travel to recruitment events such as college career fairs and industry events as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of recruiting experience preferred.
  • Solid experience sourcing passive candidates using tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, and similar platforms.
  • Experience with an Applicant Tracking System, preferably Oracle Recruiting Cloud (ORC).
  • Experience managing up to 25 requisitions concurrently in a corporate setting preferred.
  • Experience sourcing passive candidates for hard-to-fill roles.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to assist with sourcing and interviewing candidates.

Schedule and Location

  • Hybrid work schedule with in-office presence Tuesday through Thursday; Monday and Friday offer remote or in-office options.
  • Located at ABS's modern ten-story corporate headquarters in Spring, Texas.

Reporting Relationships

The Talent Acquisition Specialist reports to a senior-level management member and has no direct reports. The role requires a collaborative approach, with frequent interaction across the TA team and with HR leadership, and the specialist may represent the TA team in meetings with management and in briefings to HR leadership when needed.

Working Conditions

The role is based in an air-conditioned office environment. Responsibilities involve prolonged sitting, extensive computer use, and phone work. Occasional lifting of items up to 10 pounds may be required, and travel to recruitment or other work-related events is possible, including some overnight travel with advance notice.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of employment law related to recruiting and staffing.
  • Exposure to recruiting metrics such as Time to Fill, Time to Hire, and Days Open.
  • Experience with government hiring requirements including ITAR and security clearances.
