Driver Recruiter & Safety Coordinator
Job Description
Salary: USD 52,000 - 65,000 per year. Location: Van Wert, OH (onsite). This is a recruiting-first role that owns end-to-end CDL-A driver recruitment and DOT and safety-file audit readiness, reporting to ownership. It also leads the driver safety program and provides compliance oversight.

Responsibilities
- Identify and recruit CDL-A drivers using Indeed, referrals, social channels, and your own pipeline; craft and maintain driver job postings.
- Promptly respond to driver inquiries, including after-hours and weekend calls, acknowledging that top drivers may engage multiple carriers.
- Screen applicants by reviewing applications, confirming CDL and endorsements, and conducting pre-employment checks such as MVR, PSP, employment verification, and DOT drug and alcohol.
- Maintain the candidate pipeline in the driver ATS Double Nickel and guide candidates through hire, orientation, and payroll onboarding in Paychex.
- Create and sustain driver qualification files to stay audit-ready for DOT/FMCSA requirements.
- Coordinate the DOT drug and alcohol testing program, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing.
- Oversee day-to-day safety activities using Samsara, including driver orientation, safety coaching, incident intake and reporting, and CSA score monitoring.
- Monitor CDL, medical cards, and certifications to anticipate expirations.
- Collaborate with dispatch and maintenance on driver and safety matters.
Requirements
- Two or more years in recruiting, HR, driver recruiting, or transportation operations; CDL driver recruitment is strongly preferred.
- Comfortable conducting outbound calls and presenting the opportunity to candidates; recruiting is relationship work.
- Familiarity with FMCSA DOT driver qualification rules and drug and alcohol regulations is a plus.
- Organized and detail-oriented to maintain audit-ready files.
- Willingness to learn and work with Double Nickel, Indeed, Google Sheets, Samsara, and Paychex; prior experience with any is beneficial, with training provided for the right candidate.
- Self-starter who can own the recruiting funnel and pursue leads.
