Job Description

The Talent Acquisition Specialist develops unsubsidized and subsidized employment opportunities for PATH and FAE&T customers, coordinates job search and placement activities, and collaborates with Career Coaches and BSR Teams to align candidates with job openings and support self-sufficiency.

General Summary

The role focuses on creating employment opportunities for PATH and FAE&T participants, guiding job searches, and partnering with Career Coaches and Business Service Representatives to identify openings and help customers achieve placement and self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assess PATH customers and job seekers by reviewing qualifications, education, interests, and aptitudes to set relevant employment objectives and refer them to suitable opportunities to meet career and program placement goals.
  • Maintain a pool of job ready PATH and FAE&T candidates to expedite referrals to opportunities developed by Business Service Representatives and through local partnerships.
  • Actively participate in Center, Agency, and MWA events including career fairs, meetings, economic development efforts, regional projects, and staff trainings.
  • Stay current on local labor market trends, workforce development resources, career development techniques, and new assessment tools.
  • Develop and facilitate weekly job club sessions to create a positive environment for job seekers to share leads, refine job search skills, and stay motivated; network with community agencies to recruit topic experts.
  • Conduct informative and motivational program orientations and employment related sessions on site, at career networking meetings, and at locations such as schools, community agencies, and partner AJC locations.
  • Provide ongoing career coaching to PATH and FAE&T customers, including job search support, resume development, interview skills, career exploration, labor market information, networking and job search techniques, cover letter preparation, and guidance on online and social media use for job search, motivation, work habits, salary negotiation, and career transitions to support placement and career growth.
  • Screen and recruit PATH and FAE&T customers for potential employment opportunities and coordinate referrals with Business Service Representative Teams; gather timely feedback and track referral results.
  • Maintain knowledge of program regulations, state and MWA policy issuances, and procedures; document services in accordance with regulations by entering activities, case notes, and ISS updates into the OS/MIS system.
  • Assist employers in accessing the Pure Michigan Talent Connect and other center and partner program resources to meet hiring needs, referring employers to BSR staff and other resources as appropriate.
  • Execute resume searches aligned with employer requirements and screen and refer suitable candidates for opportunities in line with job orders and referral processes.
  • Support data entry of customer and employer information, program activities and outcomes, and services into the OS/MIS system; assist in maintaining internal talent pool tracking systems and necessary back-up records for unit reports.
  • Instruct PATH and FAE&T customers in using resources, helping develop high-quality Pure Michigan resumes and professional resumes, and providing technical assistance with online job search and career research sites.
  • Produce documents and announcements to promote program services, hiring events, employer notices, invitations, follow-ups, and handouts for seminars, workshops, and orientations.
  • Keep information up to date on Michigan Works Service Center programs and local resources to educate customers and guide them to available services.
  • Facilitate and execute employer-based training opportunities and contracts in compliance with program regulations; assist in developing and monitoring training sites.
  • Conduct ongoing research on local employment trends to inform customers about transferable skills and promote placement into new economic sectors via notices, flyers, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Human Resources, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related fields is preferred; alternatively, two years of additional experience may substitute for one year of college beyond a high school diploma.
  • One year of experience in workforce development, career coaching, placement services, professional training, corporate recruitment, or education is required.
  • Strong written communication with clear grammar and punctuation; excellent public speaking skills.
  • Ability to conduct seminars on various topics and teach job-search skills to diverse groups of customers and present information to job seekers, community agencies, and employers.
  • Skill in resume and cover letter writing and in guiding customers through these processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional, friendly relationships with customers and employers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; ability to maintain accurate records, generate timely reports, and meet performance standards.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to engage a diverse employer and customer base.
  • Willingness to travel to other locations as needed.
