Job Description

Travis County seeks a senior supervisor to lead TCSO Recruiting and Background Investigations from an onsite base in Austin, Texas. This role oversees full-cycle recruiting and background investigations for sworn positions, while shaping sourcing strategies and employer branding to build durable talent pipelines across the agency. The position offers a salary range of $70,532 to $91,686 per year and is based onsite in Austin.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily work of Background Investigators and Recruiters, providing performance assessments.
  • Allocate and monitor caseloads to ensure investigations are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Offer guidance on investigative procedures, hiring standards, and applicant fitness.
  • Communicate updates to policies, procedural changes, and expectations for operations.
  • Develop investigators through coaching, training, and formal evaluations.
  • Manage the full recruiting cycle, application, and background process to ensure a positive candidate experience.
  • Attend recruiting events regularly with the team.
  • Develop recruitment and selection policies, metrics, and reports to promote transparent, fair, and effective practices.
  • Ensure timely background investigations and verify accuracy of completed checks before scheduled interviews.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of recruiting platforms to attract qualified applicants.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to define needs, craft sourcing strategies to attract diverse candidates, and prescreen applicants.
  • Design innovative recruitment strategies to attract qualified applicants and establish metrics to gauge success and best practices.
  • Create recruitment and selection policies that support a transparent, merit-based hiring process aligned with the role.
  • Build a working knowledge of TCSO to rapidly identify critical staffing requirements.
  • Develop talent pipelines for commonly filled positions.
  • Source candidates and expand a network through online sourcing, networking, and referrals.
  • Launch initiatives to expand the candidate pipeline and boost employer brand visibility.
  • Leverage social media, career fairs, cold outreach, and campus visits to locate qualified candidates.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on recruitment best practices for TCSO.
  • Maintain and use data reports and performance metrics to inform decisions.
  • Records management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Criminal, driving, education, and employment background checks are required.
  • Drug and alcohol testing is required.
  • Physical requirements include occasional lifting or carrying 20 to 50 pounds, adequate visual acuity, hearing and speech, and manual dexterity to operate a computer and office equipment.
  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client or customer contact, and squatting to perform essential functions.
  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with possible additional hours including weekends, nights, or holidays.
