Job Description

Shawmut Design and Construction is hiring a Senior Recruiter based in Boston, MA, working onsite. In this role, you will run business-critical recruiting searches end to end, partnering closely with leaders to refine how Shawmut identifies, engages, and evaluates mission-critical talent.

Role Overview

As Senior Recruiter, you will take ownership of complex, difficult-to-fill searches from strategy through close. You will balance immediate hiring needs with longer-term talent pipeline building, serving as a trusted advisor to the business while guiding hiring teams toward clear, timely decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own critical searches from strategy through close, leading recruiting across levels while balancing near-term requirements and longer-term pipeline goals.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders by understanding why a hire matters, helping define the right profile, challenging assumptions thoughtfully, and supporting hiring teams in reaching decisions with clarity and speed.
  • Develop sourcing strategies for each search, including identifying target companies and talent pools, engaging passive candidates, and using direct outreach, employee referrals, recruiting technology, and agency partnerships with purpose.
  • Provide candidates with a compelling reason to consider Shawmut by connecting business direction and opportunities to what matters to each person, supported by informed conversations and consistent follow-through.
  • Bring depth to candidate assessment by looking for evidence against role requirements, helping teams ask better questions, and converting interview feedback into well-supported decisions.
  • Use market intelligence to shape recruiting approach, bringing insight into competitors, compensation, talent availability, and organizational structures, and adjusting when a search is not producing results.
  • Lead offer and closing strategy by understanding candidate motivations, anticipating competing offers and concerns, and partnering with stakeholders to navigate compensation and secure acceptance.
  • Maintain recruiting discipline by establishing a consistent cadence with hiring teams, using data to surface priorities and risks, and driving accountability for next steps.
  • Strengthen the team through knowledge sharing, mentoring colleagues, and recommending improvements to tools, processes, and recruiting practices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience recruiting for mission-critical construction projects, such as data centers or other technically complex, uptime-sensitive facilities.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience recruiting.
  • Proven ability to independently deliver complex, difficult-to-fill, or business-critical searches.
  • Credibility to advise senior leaders, influence hiring strategy, and respectfully challenge a hiring team when evidence suggests a different direction.
  • Strong sourcing and relationship-building skills, including success engaging and closing passive or highly sought-after candidates.
  • Thoughtful assessment approach, with the ability to probe beyond a résumé and connect experience to role demands.
  • Strong business judgment and comfort operating with minimal direction while handling ambiguity, competing priorities, and sensitive conversations.
  • Recruiting operational discipline, comfort using data and technology, and a habit of improving how work gets done.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to share knowledge.

Compensation & Work Location

  • Location: Boston, MA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 115,000 - 160,000 per year
